Doda, 18/01/2020: We The Humans Forum for Nature and Mankind team, today, distributed extreme weather blankets among very poor families at village Harira and Janota block Khellani district Doda through We The Humans volunteer Sadhna Devi from Malhori Panchayat.
Meanwhile, Retd Principal Secretary Law K Y S Manhas Chairman of Executive Body of the trust has appealed to Manoj Sinha Lt Governor of J K UT to impose a blanket ban on sale & use of Single Use Plastics atleast in all hilly areas. Rampant use of foods & beverages packed in single use plastics are proving to be a devastating factor for our environment especially in fragile soil & glaciers in mountains and hills. Human greed, under garb of technological advancement, had opened a flood gate for manufacturers & suppliers of soft drinks, cooking oil, milk, rice & wheat flour, shampoos & cosmetics, packaged drinking water to shift from eco friendly materials like glassware bottles, traditional clothes, jute or rough woven material sacks, paper packagings to single use plastic bottles, sacks and pouches which take hundreds of years to get decomposed. Single Use Plastics remain deep in layers after layers of soil for hundreds of years contaminating our soil and water badly.
Jammu, 14/01/2020: We The Humans team, today, distributed extreme weather blankets among very poor families at Beli Charana Jammu. S. Prem Singh founder member & patron, Asiya Publicly Secretary and Rabia volunteer of We The Humans, were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, S Prem Singh, an octogenarian, informed that We The Humans Forum for Nature and Mankind have been instrumental in bringing awareness about different malices affecting our environment badly. The members of the trust have been raising their voice vociferously against highly hazardous human practices like rampant use of plastics in our day to day life, especially single use plastics, manufacturing & excessive usage of toxic chemical pesticides/ fertilizers in our UT, illegal encroachments of forests & river banks, contamination of rivers & water bodies with effluent sewerage waters, unscientific disposal of daily garbage including medical wastes. The government authorities have till date failed to free our forests land and river banks despite of lot of hue & cry since last mire than two decades. Food adulteration especially milk adulteration has become a serious problem posing grave threat to human health. As an estimate, more than fifty percent of milk or milk products we consume are adulterated with olive oil, detergent powder/ liquid, urea and other harmful chemicals. If the government agencies fail to stop milk adulteration, India may witness a vertical upsurge in number of cancer patients which might affect 80% of Indian population by the year 2025. Food Safety Organisations are perhaps waiting for getting things out of the control; They have failed to do daily testing and book the culprits in all local markets, which should have been their compulsory mandate. Many big chains of suppliers of milk and milk products are indulging in milk adulteration especially in urban areas; Surprise checks need to be done of all big suppliers to stop the poisonous milk or milk products enter human bodies.
Jammu, 4th January 2021: Chairman of "We The Humans Forum for Nature and Mankind" Retd Principal District & Session Judge K Y S Manhas, today addresing few needy families, who were provided with extreme weather blankets by We The Humans in collaboration with Swasthya Evam Shiksha Charitable Trust New Delhi in a small function at Sun Rise Public School for slum area children, demanded for a complete ban on sale and use of single use plastics if we want to save life on this earth. K Y S Manhas said that during last one decade, we all witnessed an upsurge in use of single use plastics by the soft drinks, packaged water, cooking oil, milk, & milk products, rice and wheat flour manufacturers and suppliers in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier these day to day necessary consumables were either suppled in glassware and sacks made of jute or eco friendly material. But this shift from eco friendly to non biogradable packagings to increase profit margins have resulted in devastating effects on our environment. Not only drains of all inhabited areas remained choked with single use plastics but we witness piles of plastic garbage on roads, dumping sites, on peripheries of cities, highways, in rivers, ponds & lakes. As an estimates more than fourty percent single use plastics remain uncollected and remain in our environment for hundreds of years without any changes. These go down in layers of our soil and toxic chemicals from this petroleum based products poison our soil as well as the groundwater. Animals like stray dogs and cows often consume much plastics inside their body when they search for food in piles of garbage-dumps. Huge piles of single use plastics, left over by tourists & local population, are even found on our glaciers and hilly areas. Marine Life is also affected badly and this is roughly estimated that by year 2050, the weight of plastics in seas/ rivers shall be more than the weight of fishes. This is high time the Government should consider a complete ban on use and sale of single use plastics in J&K UT. Mohinder Kumar, the founder member, Sanna Khan Office Secretary of We The Humans and Narinder Kumar Principal of the school also addressed the gathering. Later ten extreme weather blankets were distributed among needy families living in very poor conditions.

Capt Lalit Sharma exhorted the agriculturist community to shift back to traditional systems of farming and stop usage of hazardous chemical pesticides, fertilizers weedicides & herbicides. These chemical fertilizers/ pesticides not only affect fertility of our agricultural fields in longer run but also are reason behind increasing cases of cancer & serious gastro/ kidney/ liver patients in J&K. Captain Lalit Sharma further advised farmers to desist from malpractice of burning stubble & root stock after harvesting is over. Stubble burning is a serious problem in North India and this may aggravate the conditions of patients, especially our children & elders having respiratory problems. The mortality rate in COVID19 patients might also increase drastically because of highly risky levels of air pollution due to stubble burning by the farming community. Demanding for a large scale concentrated efforts by the UT administration to free all types of encroachments on the state as well forest lands and demolish all commercial/ residential structures raised on state/ forest lands in J&K, Captain Lalit Sharma, also, demanded for allotment of five marla land each to landless families falling in either BPL or lower income groups on subsidised rates, so as to enable them to take benefits of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Further, Captain Lalit Sharma made a request to Sh. Manoj Sinha Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to develop banks of river Chenab at Pargwal as a protected birds sanctuary, where hundreds of species of migratory birds show their charms, during winters.
